What is Futsal ?
Futsal is a variant of association football played on a hard court, smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It has similarities to five-a-side football. Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted. Unlike some other forms of indoor football, the game is played on a hard court surface delimited by lines; walls or boards are not used. Futsal is also played with a smaller, harder, low-bounce ball. The surface, ball and rules together favour ball control and passing in small spaces. The game’s “emphasis is on improvisation, creativity and technique”.
The OFC Academy Program operates a variety of Futsal classes between November and February each year. The classes are suitable for boys and girls from U9 and upwards, and are available to all Okanagan FC players. The classes are also open to the general public, although players wishing to join a class must first be assessed. Our Futsal program is based at The Central Sports Club, in Downtown Kelowna. The facility at Central Sports is a world class, purpose built, futsal arena which provides our young players with an excellent playing surface and environment to learn and practise the skills required to play Futsal.
Our Futsal classes are fast paced and lots of fun…we also believe that Futsal is a fantastic development tool for young soccer players. Check out this short video clip of one of our classes in action
